SHORT LIFE BIO: Music, dance and other artforms have played a huge role in my life. Especially in my formative years in Shattuck, Oklahoma. I was active in my high school choir, speech team and dance studio. My grandfather is a lifelong guitar player who played bluegrass at every family gathering and has always encouraged my singing and clogging. He always encouraged me to play a stringed instrument too, but it wasn’t for me. Not yet.
Upon graduating high school I moved to Canyon, Texas to study theatre at West Texas A&M University. While in college I met my husband, Shawn, who had just completed his service with the Marines and was starting his pre-med journey. I graduated in 2012, we married later that year in Shattuck and made our first home in Amarillo while Shawn completed his undergraduate degree at WT. Once we moved to the island, the first thing I did was try out First Lutheran. I was not raised Lutheran, but exploring the school of faith prior to our move and looking into this church in particular had me very interested. It has become my home, just as Galveston, Texas is now one of the places I will always call home.
In November of 2017, I went to a concert with a friend. The singer played the ukulele in a way that stuck with me. I decided it was finally time for me to try a stringed instrument like grandpa has always said to do. In December of 2017, I got my ukulele and I have loved it ever since. 😊
