MEET OUR MUSICIANS: Kelsey Scheuerman
OCCUPATION: Music Teacher at Travis Elementary School in Baytown; Instrumental Music Minister, First Lutheran Church
I am originally from Deerfield, Kansas, a small farm community in the southwest corner of the state. I went to Kansas State University and graduated in 2014 with a degree in Music Education. While I was at K-State, I played with the K-state Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and various other groups. After college, I taught two years at Lansing,KS Schools Middle School, teaching choir and music appreciation. I also had the opportunity to accompany the “East Hill Singers”, a men’s choir through the Lansing Men’s Prison.
I moved to Texas in search of a better job and new adventure, both of which I have found! In addition to teaching, I also volunteer as an angler educator with Texas Parks and Wildlife. I enjoy the water, either fishing or kayaking, and traveling around to visit my new home state.
I joined First Lutheran because everyone was so inviting from the second I went to my first service. I was asked to take over JuBELLation Handbell Choir the October after I moved here, then wheels started turning for an in-depth instrumental music ministry. JOYFUL NOISE is one of the most positive and uplifting experiences I have had in my life and I hope to continue to grow and strengthen the program!
