About Rev. Helen Rose Moore
Helen Rose is not a native Texan but she calls Houston home and is delighted to be serving Christ and His Church in Galveston after a decade away from the Great State. She comes from a long line of Presbyterian ministers, growing up in a family that nurtured her in the faith. She received her BA in social sciences from Southern Methodist University. She is a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and the University of Houston—Clear Lake, (M.A. in family therapy). She completed 5 units of clinical pastoral education at The Methodist Hospital. Helen Rose was ordained to the ministry in 1994 and is a licensed professional counselor.
Helen Rose has been deeply involved in the life of the Presbyterian Church (USA) from an early age. From youth group, children and youth choirs, Christian Education classes, church camp and confirmation, she grew up cherishing church life as the best expression of faith. As an adult, Helen Rose began serving on presbytery Christian Education and Older adult ministry committees. She has served on the Committee on Ministry and chaired the Committee on Preparation for Ministry for 3 years in Southern Kansas Presbytery.
Helen Rose raised her children at Saint Philip Presbyterian Church, where she was a youth parent, member of the SuperChoir, and adult education teacher. She served twice on the staff of St. John’s Presbyterian Church. For 4 years she was a hospice chaplain. Prior to leaving Houston in 2003 she was pastor of Faith Covenant Church and had a therapy practice. She served churches in Southern and Northern Kansas and Southwest Missouri for 10 years before returning to Houston to serve at Webster.
As she said recently in a sermon, the trajectory of her ministry has followed an “oddball” path. Being the interim of First Evangelical Lutheran Church is an unexpected but delightful surprise. Following God’s call has brought her here and she is learning a new way to worship God and love Christ’s people. Gratitude is her most heart-felt response to this new call to ministry.
Helen Rose revels in being closer to her son and closer to an airport for visits with her daughter and son-in-law. She loves cats, music, movies and beautiful flowers. She has an open door invitation to drop by anytime for a chat. She is available for pastoral counseling, a cup of tea and a good laugh, all in the Name of Jesus Christ.
