FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH ANNOUNCES SPRING 2018 “GET BETTER TOGETHER” 8-WEEK CLASS, BEGINNING MARCH 20, 2018
GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (26 February 2018.) Building on the success of the just -completed 8-week health/fitness class to “Get Better Together”, the next session will “Spring Forward” with a new 8-week class, beginning March 20. Sponsored by First Lutheran Church and open to the public, this expanded community out-reach program was designed to encourage participants to prepare for a 5-K walk/run event. Participants will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm in the courtyard area of First Lutheran Church, 25th & Winnie – in historic downtown Galveston.
Coordinated by certified running coach and First Lutheran member, Erin Grigsby, “Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend – no matter your fitness level. Daylight savings time will be in effect when our March class begins, so we’ll have daylight in the early evening to walk and run,” Grigsby explained.
“In addition,” she continued, “We will design a customized training plan for each participant to ensure that each individual will be working to achieve maximum results. This is the perfect opportunity to get fit, meet new friends – or bring a friend or family member with you – and enjoy the beautiful Spring evenings on Galveston Island.” “And,” Grigsby concluded, “Summer is just around the corner!”
Following each Tuesday evening’s work-out, participants can cool down with light snacks and bottled water provided by First Lutheran.
The cost for the 8-week session is $20 per person. The fee includes a personalized training plan – created for each participant.

Beginning the first Tuesday of June, June 6, First Lutheran Church will offer the Galveston community a new outreach program by sponsoring/hosting a walking/running program – “Get Better Together.”
The group will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, at 6.30pm in the courtyard between First Lutheran Church and the Galveston Lyceum (24th & Winnie in historic downtown Galveston).
Coordinated by certified running coach and First Lutheran member, Erin Grigsby, the focus of this new initiative is the opportunity to “come together, get ourselves outside and moving, improve self esteem and form new friendships.”
This new walk/run group is open to the public; all ages – everyone is welcome – from beginners, all the way up to experienced runners. Grisgby, along with Matt Frye – an area high school teacher, athletic coach, and an Ambassador for the Chevron Houston Marathon – will organize, motivate and coach the participants.
“We look forward to working with our participants – not only to help each person establish a personal goal, but to encourage new friendships and to have fun with this new adventure!” “Our long-term goal,” Grigsby continued, “is to train for a charity run – where we can participate and give back to the community.”
